What DisputeGoat is

DisputeGoat is a self-service software workspace that helps consumers review their own credit report data (accessed through SmartCredit®) and prepare their own written consumer letters in connection with their rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and applicable state laws.

What DisputeGoat is not

  • Not a credit repair organization. We do not contact, negotiate with, file with, or represent you to any credit bureau, furnisher, creditor, or other party. Every action regarding your credit file is yours.
  • Not a law firm. We do not provide legal advice or legal services. If you need legal advice, consult a licensed attorney.
  • Not a financial advisor or credit counselor. Nothing in the Service is financial, tax, investment, or credit-counseling advice.
  • Not affiliated with any government agency. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) are independent government agencies that protect consumers; DisputeGoat has no affiliation with either.
  • Not a provider of credit reports. Your credit report and credit scores are provided by SmartCredit®, a separate credit monitoring product from ConsumerDirect®. SmartCredit® billing is separate from any DisputeGoat-related charges and is presented during SmartCredit® enrollment.

No outcome guaranteed

DisputeGoat does not guarantee, promise, or warrant any specific outcome — including any change in your credit score, the removal or modification of any item on your credit report, approval of any application for credit, or any specific response from a credit bureau, furnisher, or other recipient of a Letter you send. Outcomes depend on the underlying facts on your credit file and on the independent decisions of the credit bureaus, furnishers, and other third parties.

Educational simulator

The credit score simulator on our site is provided for educational illustration only. The projected scores, point figures, mortgage APR ranges, and savings amounts shown are illustrative estimates based on typical FICO® scoring patterns and industry mortgage averages. They are not predictive of your actual credit score, your actual loan terms, or any specific outcome you might achieve.

Your rights under federal law

Under the FCRA (15 U.S.C. §§ 1681 et seq.), you have the right to challenge any inaccuracy on your credit report by writing to the credit bureau directly, at no cost. You do not need DisputeGoat or any other paid service to exercise that right. The bureau is generally required to investigate the dispute and to delete or correct information that cannot be verified, typically within 30 days. If you believe a furnisher has provided inaccurate information, you may also dispute directly with the furnisher under FCRA Section 623.

For more information about your consumer rights, contact the FTC, 600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20580, or visit ftc.gov and consumerfinance.gov.

Your responsibility

You are solely responsible for the content, accuracy, and consequences of any Letter you generate, download, mail, or otherwise send. Read every Letter carefully before sending it. Do not submit a Letter that you know to be false or misleading or that challenges information you know to be accurate, current, and verifiable.
